SANTO SKATE

The First Skate Park and School in Morro da Providência

Since 2019, skateboarding has been part of our educational program, thanks to local and international partners, acting as a tool for social transformation.

The most impactful result has been the noticeable behavioral changes in our participants. However, the lack of a proper space for our training sessions led to the creation of an idea: building our own skate park.

The Santo Skate Park was built by Casa Amarela Providência in 2022, in collaboration with the Santo Skate project (@santo_skate), for our participants, the local residents, and skateboarders from the area. Our aim is to ensure that children and young people have access to high-quality sports equipment, educational opportunities, and leisure activities.

The skate park, built by Tangente Skate Parks, was inaugurated in August 2022. It already hosts two new groups and is part of a project to integrate skateboarding programs from other communities, who will be invited to train at the park.

In addition to skateboarding, the space will host various cultural events and activities aligned with our educational pathways and overall mission.

Almost all children enrolled in the skateboarding project are now also registered in literacy and tutoring programs at Casa Amarela.

For more information about activities at the park or to follow the Santo Skate project’s calendar of events, please contact us at: santoskate.rj@gmail.com.

"Casa Amarela is an escape valve for the children who are part of this community, amidst all the daily violence, just like in any favela in Rio de Janeiro."

— Vinicius Martins, Founder of Santo Skate
